Quite often as business owners we forget our place of power. Where you might ask would that be? Your business place of power is where your strength lies. It’s what you do best. If you happen to be the best hair stylist, designer, or a painter, operate your business on the strength of that gift, regardless of what else is going on around you. Before you develop marketing tools, downsize or expand you business make sure you are operating from a place of power.

I recently coached a seasoned knowledgeable business owner of 17 years, who provided a product to the medical industry. Once financially strong, two companies provided the majority of his business, he became comfortable. He occasionally marketed, not consistently, not effectively, just enough to say, “I’ve done it all”. The focus became those two companies, not on the business, and not the growing the business. When financial trouble hit these major clients it created a domino affect straight to his business door. To complicate the matters, he changed the variables of the business, moved his office inside his home, and didn’t communicate any of the changes to clients. At this point his business wasn’t very marketable.

He consulted with me to help him develop a website and business cards. He shared since technology in his industry had changed, he hadn’t. His business couldn’t provide the newest products the clients he serviced expected. After talking with him it became apparent he didn’t know his place of power. There where challenges a website and business cards couldn’t cure. The answer to his problem wasn’t just a matter of creating marketing tools to promote his business, he needed to put together a plan, and recreate a place of power.

Simply put, a place of power allows to you know immediately where you stand in your business, how to communicate the services and products, features and benefits.
